Using boats specifically made for this type of fishing the guides are amazing sight fishermen. From beginner to expert there are no limits to these charters. Lessons are available for those wanting to learn and skills will be matched to the hard core enthusiast.
Fly fishing gear used on this charter are 8 wt to 12 wt with weight forward tapers on floating and intermediate fly lines. It is encouraged for anglers to bring their own tackle, however we recommend talking with your fishing guide to learn about how to set up your rods for best results. A decent cast will be required for the more elusive species of fish. A “double haul” will help in many ways to cast in the winds.
When on a fly fishing charter in Islamorada one can expect a good number of species to choose from. Most popular are bonefish, redfish, tarpon and snook. Also available are barracudas, sharks, mackerel, permit and snappers. Seasons will matter greatly for species selection.
Guided fly fishing charters out of Islamorada will most likely only allow two anglers. Most fishing guides will offer 4, 6, and 8 hour trips. They will also provide all the gear, flies and leaders you will need for a day of targeting fish. You are welcome to bring your own gear as well. The boats are typically 16 – 24 ft in length. The smaller boats (flats skiffs) can be pretty tippy so good balance is needed.
